Get on the Divide with 30 Great Trips
We’ve selected 30 great trips on the CDT —from multi-day backpacking adventures to scenic family-friendly day hikes.
While we have made every effort to include accurate information and map listings, the CDT is a work in progress. New Trail openings and reroutes often occur. Check with the local land manager (Forest Service, Bureau of Land Management or National Park Service) to ensure the trail information is current. For the loop trips described, additional maps may be required beyond those listed.

SAFETY FIRST! While the 3,100 mile CDT is still under construction, there are more than 2,050 miles of the Trail complete where you will find some of the wildest places left in this country and where few humans have passed before. Before you head out, plan ahead and prepare. The trail data provided is to be used for informational purposes only and not intended to be the sole source of information you use. Learn about the area before you travel and obtain backcountry permits that are typically required when traveling through El Malpais National Monument, Rocky Mountain National Park, Yellowstone National Park and Glacier National Park. Know the worst conditions you can expect, carry appropriate food, clothing, and equipment, and let someone know where you are going and when you plan to return.
